Anakin Skywalker Pictures Biography
Darth Vader is a character from the Star Wars film series.
For the first nine years of his life, Anakin Skywalker was a slave boy on the planet Tatooine who with his mother Shmi worked in the service of the junk dealer Watto. Shmi claimed that Anakin was the result of an immaculate conception, and hence no father could be attributed to the boy. The Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who stumbled upon the boy during a mission on Tatooine, theorized that Anakin’s unusually high level of midi-chlorians in his system could in fact have led to such a birth, and that also the boy might have been the so-called Chosen One who had been prophesied to bring balance to the Force.
While other members of the Jedi Order questioned Qui-Gon’s assertions, there was no denying the fact that the young Anakin was powerful with the Force. As such, his mother agreed to let the boy leave Tatooine with Qui-Gon in order to study the ways of the Jedi himself. Shortly thereafter, Qui-Gon was killed in battle, but Qui-Gon’s apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi agreed to continue the boy’s studies. It was also during this period that Anakin first encountered the young Queen Padmé Amidala. Years later, after reaching adulthood, Anakin and Padmé would marry secretly, breaking the Jedi law in the process.
As Anakin matured and attained the title of Jedi Knight himself, he proved himself to be extremely powerful but also extremely ambitious. A hero of the Clone Wars, Anakin also formed a bond with the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, Palpatine, though unbeknownst to the young man, the Chancellor was also a dark lord of the Sith and was subtly manipulating and grooming Anakin to become his apprentice. After being granted a seat on the Jedi Council -- but, much to his consternation, not being awarded the title of Jedi Master -- Anakin’s loyalties became confused. With further manipulation at the hands of Palpatine, who assured him that if he turned to the dark side of the Force he would be able to save his seemingly doomed wife, Anakin eventually succumbed to the evil and became a fierce killing machine for the Sith lord. In short order, he helped wipe out the Jedi Knights almost entirely from the galaxy and assisted in bringing victory to the Republic/Empire in the Clone Wars.
Around this time, Anakin was also grievously wounded in a lightsaber battle with his former friend and mentor Obi-Wan, resulting in his having to don a life-support suit and various cyborg appendages for his remaining days. Unaware of the fact that his wife had given birth to their twin children (Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa) before her death, Anakin took the name Darth Vader as a symbol of his new dark-side affiliation and proceeded to terrorize the galaxy for the next two decades as the right-hand man of Palpatine.
But after 19 years, Vader became aware that his son Luke was not just alive, but also strong with the Force. Under the guise of seeking the boy out in order to turn him to the dark side, Vader turned his attention to hunting down Luke Skywalker for the next several years. Eventually, the two would meet, culminating in a lightsaber duel onboard the second Death Star on the eve of the Empire’s defeat at the hands of the Rebel Alliance. During this fight, Vader saved his son’s life by killing his master Palpatine, though he was mortally wounded in the process. But his sacrifice succeeded in bringing him back from the dark side of the Force, and father and son shared a final moment of redemption before Anakin’s death.
