Yoda Picture Biography
Yoda is a character from the Star Wars film series.
Jedi Master Yoda was a highly influential member of the Jedi Order, particularly in the waning years of the Old Republic when he served as Grand Master on the Jedi Council. He also, in his 900 years of life, had a hand in training many Jedi Knights, including the likes of Count Dooku, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Luke Skywalker. He fought valiantly as a General in the Clone Wars and was one of the only Jedi to survive Emperor Palpatine’s vicious Order 66, which wiped out the Order.
Not much is known about Yoda’s early life, though his centuries-long service as a Jedi was distinguished. Among his many duties as a Jedi was the training of all younglings prior to their being assigned to a master for further study.
Yoda had misgivings about one such youngling, the slave boy Anakin Skywalker, who Qui-Gon Jinn brought to the Jedi Council claiming he was the prophesied Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. The ancient Jedi Master saw a clouded future for Anakin and together with the Council suggested that it would be dangerous to train the boy, though eventually they relented and allowed him to join the Order. This would prove to be a great mistake, as Anakin would grow up to become the dark-side Sith lord Darth Vader, who with Emperor Palpatine would eradicate the Jedi and transform the Republic into the Galactic Empire.
After the creation of the Empire, Yoda was able to escape the Jedi cleansing and go into hiding on the distant world Dagobah. He would live as a hermit there for two decades until Anakin’s son Luke arrived, requesting to learn the ways of the Jedi. Under Yoda’s tutelage, Luke would become the first knew Jedi since the creation of the Empire, and he would also represent the dawn of a new age of Jedi. Yoda died of old age shortly thereafter on Dagobah, though his Force- ability to communicate from the afterlife meant that he could still appear to Skywalker when necessary.
